Alexander Street Park on Friday, September 4
Trinity Episcopal School, in partnership with the Charlotte Housing Authority, Mecklenburg County Park & Recreation and the City of Charlotte, will host a chapel service and groundbreaking ceremony for Alexander Street Park on Friday, September 4 at 8:30am. The ceremony will be held behind Seigle Point Apartments at Seigle Avenue and 10th Street, and will include Jennifer Roberts, Mecklenburg County Commission chair, Jim Gargess, Mecklenburg County Park & Recreation department director, Charles Woodyard, Charlotte Housing Authority President/CEO and Al Lindemann, Chair, Board of Trustees as guest speakers.
"This is a great example of a public/private partnership and a great moment for Trinity and the Uptown Charlotte community," Father Smokey Oats said. "Alexander Street Park will be the crown jewel for both Trinity and for the 31 neighborhoods it will serve. It will be the largest active play space closest to Trade and Tryon."
The Park, which sits on four-acres alongside Uptown Charlotte's First Ward, is scheduled to open in phases, beginning with six tennis courts this winter, followed by two half-court basketball courts, high school regulation soccer field, picnic pavilion, playground and walking trails in 2010.
"Trinity's commitment to the partnership is made possible, in large part, by our generous donors to the School's most recent capital campaign, Advancing Our Vision. Donation opportunities remain for those who want to invest in and give back to their community in this way," adds Eric Eubank, Advancing Our Vision chair and TES parent.
Alexander Street Park is a collaborative project bringing together Charlotte visionaries and organizations with a shared mission: to re-engineer and rebuild the old Alexander Street Park into a new, multiple-use public facility that will provide play and recreation space for the residents of Uptown Charlotte and the surrounding area.
